You might as well re-commit to stop worrying and learn to love the bomb, after Mike Pence’s speech at an air base in North Dakota today assuring the world of the United States having both, “the will and the fire power to annihilate any existential threat,” and be “effective and overwhelming,” when doing so.

Pence tells us Trump, “has taken decisive action to make the strongest military in the world stronger still.” — and with no detail offered as to what that action might have been.

“It’s a great honor for me to serve as vice president to a president who cares so deeply about the men and women of the armed forces of the United States, their families and our veterans. I believe that history will record that president* Trump is the best president that the armed forces of the United States will ever have. “

Then Pence went on to invoke Ronald Reagan, hallowed be his name, and then announced to an audience composed of crickets, “Under this commander in chief the era of budget cuts to the American military are OVER! [He did get a round of applause on that.]

He then assured the group that Trump is, “Committed to strengthen and nuclearize America’s nuclear deterrent. There is no greater force for peace in the world than the US nuclear arsenal. This bedrock of American freedom….proves every day to the world that the United States has both the will and the fire power to annihilate any existential threat to our people and to our homeland...will remain strong in the 21st Century and beyond.”

“Under president* Trump’s leadership, we’ll make sure that our nuclear deterrent is stronger. than. ever. before. we’re going to rebuild our military. We’re going to restore the arsenal of democracy and we will once again as a nation give our soldiers...the resources and the training that you need to accomplish your mission...”

“This president has made it clear that America will stand with our allies and stand up to our enemies.”

“Our administration will no longer certify the disastrous Iran nuclear deal ...thanks to our commander in chief, in Syria and Iraq, ISIS is on the run.”

Then he went on to talk about B-52s making strikes. Then he said, “We will not rest until we hunt down and destroy ISIS at its source.  Then the topic shifted to North Korea, and Pence quoted Trump’s “great strength and patience. Our enemies should never doubt the capabilities of the armed forces of the United States. Anyone who threatens our nation should know that America always seeks peace. But if we are forced to defend ourselves and our allies we will do so with military power that is effective and overwhelming.”

Not quite so bad as fire and fury. Pence continued, “Now more than ever your commander in chief is depending upon you to be ready...be that credible deterrent that has assured the safety of the American people for generations. The brave men and women of Minot Air Force Base may yet be called upon to be the instruments of American power. If that day comes, we know you will be prepared. BULLY!” [sic] Pence concluded with quoting from the Bible.

All he needed was Mandrake to make him a bourbon and branch water and light his cigar and he would have been just fine.
